FAQ
Answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Can it be installed in a bathroom or spa?
Yes. The kits are designed for damp environments: light sources with an adequate protection rating, non-conductive PMMA fiber optics, and safe installation even near showers, pools, and hot tubs. The light source is placed in a ventilated technical compartment outside the wet area.
Does it work on an existing plasterboard ceiling?
Yes, that’s the most common application. The fiber optics pass through 1–1.5mm holes drilled into the plasterboard from above. Nothing needs to be dismantled: we work from the opposite side of the ceiling (attic, loft, or accessible suspended ceiling).
How much electricity does a Cobb kit use?
Very little. The LED light source uses 20–50W depending on star density and the area covered: the equivalent of a single LED bulb. In nighttime standby, consumption is close to zero.
How long does it last?
PMMA fiber optics are passive and don’t degrade: they last indefinitely. The LED light source has a service life of over 50,000 hours of continuous operation — about 20 years of normal use. The controllers come with a 2-year warranty and are expandable.
Is there electrical voltage inside the ceiling?
No. Only light travels through the fibers, never electricity. The entire electrical part stays in the light source, placed in an accessible spot of your choice. It’s one of the safest and most certifiable installations on the market.
Can I control the effects from my phone?
Yes. The Cobb controller can be operated by remote control, a dedicated app (iOS/Android), or integrated into home automation systems via KNX / DALI. You can choose static effects, dynamic effects, time schedules, and scenarios linked to other devices.
How long does it take between order and delivery?
Production and delivery within 3–4 weeks from order payment. On-site installation typically takes 1–2 days for a residential ceiling, 3–5 days for spas and hotels.
Can I install the kit myself?
Yes. We provide an installation guide, step-by-step video tutorials, and phone technical support throughout the entire job. If you prefer, we’ll put you in touch with a Cobb-certified installer in your area.
